Our director of employment services, Desiree Wilson ’85, does an outstanding job overseeing initiatives that connect employers with our entire campus community. For example, her team maintains strong relationships with the center’s career coordinators who serve each of the colleges. These individuals are well-versed in each department’s offerings and can connect employers to appropriate students, faculty and staff in any discipline. 

Career Center staff members also possess great depth of experience in working with companies of all types. We have connections with more than 4,000 companies regionally, nationally and internationally and take great care to connect employers with the best potential employees for the positions they seek to fill.  

2. The Career Center prides itself on being a powerful recruitment resource for corporations. What are some of the recruiting opportunities employers may access in their search for talent?  

As a centralized career center, we’re responsible for the entire campus population and constantly seek innovative ways to connect employers with our community.  

We host companies in the Career Center and other campus facilities for on-campus interviews—our record was 91 interview rooms running across campus in a single day. We also coordinate virtual interviews if companies can’t come to campus. We host company-sponsored events such as tailgates or company days and coordinate multiple career fairs each semester in conjunction with various departments and student organizations. In short, we help in whatever ways fit a specific company’s needs. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for employers to connect with Aggie students and former students. 

3. What does a typical recruitment event look like? 

It depends on the recruiting organization’s goals; we tailor our offerings to their needs. We can help identify and connect to career fairs, reserve suites to host multiple days for campus interviews, help coordinate a campus breakfast or lunch, a half-day event or a full-day event—whatever is most beneficial to the company. 

4. The Career Center offers a Corporate Partner Program—what does that entail? 

The Corporate Partner Program was designed to serve those employers with whom we collaborate most closely and frequently. It centers on three primary areas: strategic focus, brand recognition, and student interactions and sponsorship.  

Corporate partners receive a series of additional benefits based on their participation level, which goes from silver to gold to maroon. Benefits include an annual hosted campus visit with faculty and advisors, a social media takeover day and a networking event with student organization leaders. It’s a way for the university to enhance relationships with certain businesses by building connections on campus and promoting their brand among target populations. 

5. What’s the most important thing for employers to know about the Career Center? 

We are a dedicated career center on an extremely large campus. We are the single point of contact at Texas A&M that can get you to the places and people on campus that you need.
