Dr. Mark Weichold ’78 has held many roles at Texas A&M, but his most recent role as interim provost and executive vice president might just be his most challenging. From beginning his university career as an assistant professor to his time as the CEO and dean of Texas A&M University at Qatar, Dr. Weichold has dedicated his career to serving students.

To further this selfless service for Aggies, Dr. Weichold and his wife, Judy ’79, established a Foundation Excellence Award to help students from underrepresented groups in the College of Education and Human Development and the College of Engineering. “The Foundation Excellence Award is an important way to provide an education to those who might not otherwise be able to afford it,” Dr. Weichold stated.

The couple’s motivation for creating this gift is personal and manifests their desire to see a more diverse and inclusive campus. Reflecting on their time as students approximately 50 years ago, they hope this gift will impact current students. “As former students, we want to ensure that the tradition of giving continues for our current and future students. We hope that this endowed scholarship will continue to help our students into perpetuity,” he said.
