Attending Texas A&M University was a given for Tim Pylant ’84. For his wife, Susan ’84, the decision was sparked by a powerful moment in her hometown. She vividly remembers a 1973 parade honoring Col. James E. Ray ’63, who had just returned from Hanoi Hilton, a POW camp in Vietnam. The Ross Volunteers, Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band and the Corps of Cadets all marched in tribute. The immense respect the university showed for one of its own made Susan realize Texas A&M was where she truly belonged.

The Pylants planned their most recent gift with a testamentary charitable remainder trust in their will. After their lives, the trust will make monthly payments to their children, and — upon their passing — the remainder will support scholarships for their family’s favorite campus areas: engineering and the Corps. “When we discovered we could care for our children and give to Texas A&M without the gift being taxed, we knew it was the right choice,” Tim said.

“Texas A&M brought us together and helped Tim succeed in his career,” Susan added. “If we can help students through scholarships, encouragement or just showing up, then that’s absolutely what we’ll do.”
